I have already shared with you in “I will Yet…” how I am battling to get this new year going in my life, much of the reason being that my circumstances, projects and challenges remain unchanged. That which I faced before my holiday, is still there upon my return.
To be honest, with this whole sense of disillusionment with the New Year I have not been entering into the presence of the Lord, not because I am mad at Him, but more, between us, a sense of self-pity. I know that in His presence lie the answers for life. So a little stubbornness had taken hold of my heart, I knew what I had to do, but was not going to do it right now. Ever feel like that? You know what the medicine for your illness is, but you are slow to take it.
Well, thank goodness for friends that hold you accountable, because that friend in my life, sent me this wonderful song called “Come To Me” by Jenn Johnson and Bethel Music. The song worked against the stubbornness of my heart. Then my friend simply demanded that I “Go to the Lord, today!” Have a listen if you can.

The chorus is: “Come to Me, I am all you need. Come to me I’m everything. Come to Me, I am all you need. Come to me, I am your everything.” Although my heart knows this I had to be reminded of His presence in my life and that He is closer to me than I know.
I had to remember that He is:
Above Me: That He watches over my life. Psalm 121:7-8 “The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore.”
Below Me: That He is my rock, the One I build my life upon, the foundation of my life. Luke 6:48 “They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When the flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well-built.”
Before Me: To prepare the path of my life. Psalm 59:9-10 “You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.”
Behind Me: The Lord protects me from my enemies and covers me with His protection. Is 58:8 “Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”
Around Me: His presence is always with me, no matter where I my find myself. Psalm 139: 7-12 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”
Beside Me: He is present beside me in relationship even when I turn away from Him, because He has promised that in this relationship, Heb 13:5 “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”
Inside Me: Living in me is the Holy Spirit who makes all grace available to me. I Corinthians 3:16 “Do you not know your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.”
I have been encouraged dear friends by the very presence of the Lord in my life. I am reminded again of a portion of St Patrick’s prayer that focused his heart on the presence of God that was with him. Pray with me.
“Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.” Amen
