I am so tired!

We get those days in our lives when we are really, really tired…  A deep inner person tiredness that sticks to our bones in the busy rush of day-to-day life; when our normal courage and strength fails us and all we want to do is rest.  Not just a physical rest, but deep, in your spirit kind of rest. Been feeling like that lately.

But what kind of rest?

I have been meditating on the idea of faith and developing a kind of rest for my spirit and realised that there is rest to be found in faith.  Phil 3:8-9

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

God pointed out to me that as I trust Christ, seek Him out and I am sure to be “found” in Him, there is a rest that comes with the association.  What does it mean to be “found” in Him?  The same verse in the Message bible says it best for me: “I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him.”

It is one thing saying you are a person of faith, but quite another being backed up into a corner, dead tired, with no reserves and proving that you are still trusting Him, still to be found in Him, believing that:

neverleave

  • He is always there, always present in our lives.  I love the story of the disciples crossing the lake and the wind is “against them.”  Sometimes in life, the wind is against us.  Jesus walks on the water to them, knowing exactly where they are and says: “Take courage.  It is I. Don’t be afraid.”  Fear causes us not to see Him in our storm, but faith, trusting Him, causes us to be found in Him.  He is our first port of call in the storms of life, the first one we turn to because He is always there.

There is rest in that.

  • Believing that He has an Omnipotent plan; that everything is under His control and in His timing.  That the God we trust: is always attentive to us, working on a bigger and better plan.

There is rest in that.

He will not let your foot slip –
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:3-4)

  • Believing Him, so that we have boldness in the throne room, knowing that as a child of God, I can enter into the presence of God at anytime and ask for anything I need.

There is rest in that.

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

If you look at the passage before Hebrews 4:16 it talks about the fact that we have a high priest that understands our weakness and knows what temptation is and therefore we can “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.”  And why do we come before His throne?

To receive mercy.  Find grace.  Help in our time of need.come boldly

What rest there is to enter into the presence of God, to consider His Father heart that watches over us and to pray about the things we want to bring to Him.  There is rest in faith.

Father, do not let me be slow to enter into Your Presence, but to come with confidence.  Not flippantly with no thought about what I am saying, nor with my head low, afraid to ask you for my needs.  But let me come ‘boldly’ with confidence knowing that you care for me.  Let me rest in the fact that You have a PLAN and let me find comfort in that you are always with me when the wind is against me, and that I can have courage, you are with me.
